Hot Cross Bun Taste Test – #3
Brand/Baker: Copenhagen Bakery, Armagh Street, Christchurch
Price: $1.60 each
Ingredients: Not available
Appearance: Mark says they are ‘nice and brown’, and they are the first in our taste test to have a glaze on top so that should keep our other taste tester happy. They have a distinct white cross on the top which is sweet and crispy but can break off. Lots of fruit, both sultanas and peel, visible from the outside of the buns. Tears apart well to reveal a light springy dough.
Our Ranking: 4/5
Smell: Very light spicy smell. Not yeasty, slight smell of the fruit. Overall a subtle unobtrusive smell.
Our Ranking: 3.5/5
Amount of Fruit: An average amount of sultanas – neither stingy or generous. But what is distinctive is the addition of fruit peel.
Our Ranking: 3/5
Size: Good size.
Our Ranking: 4/5
Taste: Yum! Just the right balance of fruit and spice. Easy to eat unaccompanied, and delicious toasted and smeared with butter. No unpleasant aftertaste. When toasted it only improved in flavour.
Our Ranking: 4.5/5
Value for Money: Even though they are more expensive we think they are still good value for money considering the quality and other offerings around the same price.
Our Ranking: 4/5
