Is this the Tweetup?

I have just got back from my first Twitter Meet-up (tweetup) in Christchurch. Quite an interesting experience.

It’s strange to walk into a cafe and up to a group of strangers sitting around a table and say “So … are you the people from Twitter because if not you’re probably wondering what the hell I’m talking about right now”

It’s also one of the few occasions where people have had to introduce themselves twice; once with their real name and once with their Twitter ID. I had it pretty easy as my Twitter ID is my name: www.twitter.com/marklincoln kinda boring really!

The event was quite a good experience though. It’s great to put a face to the Twitter ID and meet a lot of great business people from Christchurch’s relatively small community.

I look forward to the next #chchtweetup!

  1. Great to meet you in person Mark – impressed with how quickly you got this post up!

Would love to encourage any other Chch readers who are on Twitter to join us for the next Tweet up … and of course anyone who wants to volunteer to organise the next one!

    cheers

  2. Hi Karen,

Thanks for your comment and yeah great to meet you too! Absolutely, and also any readers interested in getting started on Twitter – let us know! We’ll make sure you get invited to the next tweetup.

  3. Great post, Mark! Good to finally match twitter names to faces! It’s quite surreal isn’t it? tee hee

  4. It is! There aren’t many situations where you’re meeting people for the first time … and yet you already know where they work, know a little about their personal life, seen their photos, know what they had for lunch ;) etc. etc.
